Teaching Fellows Program
The Potomac School is distinguished by its emphasis on excellent teaching. Throughout our Teaching Fellows Program, we are committed to helping fellows develop into exemplary educators capable of having a positive impact on student learning. This two-year program supports recent college graduates who are considering a career in education, providing an opportunity for them to gain knowledge and skills through sustained experience in an independent-school setting. The program includes mentoring and supervision from an experienced faculty member.
Advance Your Career
What can the Teaching Fellows Program offer you?

- Cross-divisional teaching and learning opportunities
- Involvement in extracurricular activities and the life of the campus community

- Comprehensive benefits package
Individuals are not required to pursue an advanced degree to qualify for this program. However, for those who are interested, there are several universities in the surrounding area that provide the opportunity to work towards a master’s degree, including American University, The Catholic University of America, George Mason University, The George Washington University, Howard University, Marymount University, the University of Maryland, and the University of Virginia.
The goal is to provide experience for recent college graduates who want to work in an independent school. Because independent schools usually look for teachers with several years of experience, our program gives teachers-in-training the chance to do some intensive student-teaching in an independent school environment. They also contribute to Potomac outside the classroom – for example, by helping to coach a sport, robotics, or debate.”
