On Tuesday, the team took a five-minute ride to Langley High School and defeated the Saxons 17-15 in a nine-inning game. What started out looking like a low-scoring game turned into a slugfest. Potomac’s 23-hit attack was led by Alexis Vaughan ’25 and Sloane Escobar ’25, with four hits each. Anna Castellano ’26, Erika Castellano ’23, and Abby Rebhan ’24 had three hits each.

The team also traveled to Fredericksburg Christian to play the number two-seeded team in the VISAA Division 2. Potomac came out strong in the first inning scoring four runs, aided by a two-run homer by Paige Schedler ’25. Potomac scored in every inning except one and concluded the scoring with a solo homer by Hayley Richardson ’24. In addition to the homers, Potomac’s attack was led by E. Castellano, Rebhan, and Richardson, with three hits each, and A. Castellano had two singles. Rebhan pitched a complete game allowing one run while striking out eight. The final score was 11-1, and Potomac remains the number two-seeded team in Division 1 of the VISAA. 

During the second week of Spring Break the varsity softball team competed at the Wide World of Sports Complex in Orlando, Florida, going 5-0. They defeated Blair Academy (NJ) 3-0 behind the two-hit pitching of Alexis Vaughan ’25 and Abby Rebhan ’24. They combined for 12 strikeouts. Potomac’s seven-hit attack was led by Fae Butler ’24 and Paige Schedler ’25 with two hits each. They also had big wins against Grove City Christian (OH), The Pingry School (NJ), St. Luke School (CT), and Green Farm Academy (CT).

Against Grove City Christian (17-0), Vaughan and Rebhan combined for a no-hitter; Potomac’s offense was led by Rebhan with three hits, including a triple and four runs batted in (RBIs), Vaughan with three hits including a double, Erika Castellano ’23 with two doubles and two runs batted in. Sloan Escobar ’25 had a triple and drove in three runs and Shelby Willcox ’23 also drove in three runs. Against The Pingry School (9-2), Potomac’s 12-hit attack was led by Rebhan with three hits, including two doubles and five RBIs, Anna Castellano ’26, Vaughan, and E. Castellano had two hits each. Willcox also contributed with a triple.

Against St. Luke School (4-1)  the team had a 14 strikeout performance from Rebhan. Potomac had 10 hits on offense, with the Castellano sisters, Rebhan, and Vaughan each having two hits and Sam Taylormoore ’23 and Hayley Richardson ’24 each having a base hit. Rebhan started the scoring for Potomac with a solo homer in the first inning. In the final game, Potomac defeated the Green Farm Academy (15-4). Potomac had fifteen hits, led by E. Castellano with three hits and two hits by Butler and Taylormoore. Multiple players had single hits including Addie Wolff ’26 and Rebhan hit a three-run homer. The team played excellent defense led by infielders Butler, Zora Burrell ’25, Schedler, and the Castellano sisters.

On January 26, the varsity boys squash team demonstrated their skills and abilities on the road against Episcopal, winning 8-1 in regulation (9-1 overall) with most of our victories coming in three straight games. The only match loss was by just two points in a very close fifth game. The home team's advantages (more supporters, greater court familiarity) were not enough to match Potomac’s preparations and efforts.

Potomac hosted St. Christopher’s on January 31 in the Spangler Center. In very competitive matches, most Panthers pressed their opponents into overtime games before St. Chris finally prevailed 5-4. Ben Levy ’25 had a notable 3-2 win playing at our number one position, defeating his higher-rated opponent 13-11 in the fifth game by hitting a back wall dead nick after 36 minutes of high-tempo, corner-to-corner squash. Alex Zhou ‘23, Will Scribner ’25, and Aidan Corwin ’24 posted impressive wins, and co-captain Jeffrey Nuechterlein ’23, Max Revis ’23, and Daniel Overdeck ’24 competed hard, forcing their opponents into overtime. 

The Panthers were playing without our number 3 player, while the Saints appeared to have a full roster. Hopes remain high for our February 9 rematch, which will be played at the Country Club of Virginia, in Richmond. Enjoy the photos!

In a dramatic turn of events, the boys varsity and JV squash teams upset visitors Woodberry Forest one month to the day after both teams had lost to them on the road. The Panthers varsity team defeated Woodberry 6-3 in regulation (7-3 overall) and the JV team won 5-4.

Boys JV was missing three athletes and had to fill the line-up by recruiting the number 11 and number 12 varsity players for the top of their lineup, making a key difference in the nail-biting wins. Max Revis ’23 and Daniel Overdeck ’24 (varsity), Cliff Kanner-Bitetti ’25, John Cayenne-McCall ’23, and Nik Bhargava ’26 all had wins. This was a significant win for the JV team against a squad that seemed invincible a month ago, and a fine reward for our athletes who have been giving 100% at every practice! 

The varsity match was hard-contested. Solid wins from co-captain Jack Wigmore ‘23, Will Scribner ‘25, and Revis, helped jumpstart the competition. Will Forkner ‘25 notched a quick 3-0 win, leaving the official tally 3-2 in favor of Potomac at the end of the second round of play. In the third round, Jackson Mackney ‘23 prevailed 3-0, and Graham La Force ‘25 clinched the win for the team with his 3-0 victory. Ben Joel’s ‘23 dominant and conclusory 3-0 victory was exactly what was needed to upend Woodberry’s hopes and reverse our prior loss.  

The team had a strong 8-1 win over Gonzaga yesterday as they prepare for the Mid-Atlantic squash tournament on Saturday, January 21..

Following the exciting win against Maret at Friday Night Lights, the varsity football team wrapped up its regular season last Friday with a 45-0 win over Sidwell Friends. With a 6-2 record (3-1 conference), the team finished as co-champions of the Mid Atlantic Conference for the first time since 2011. The team is ranked second in the state and will next play Trinity Episcopal in Richmond on Saturday, November 12, at 1:00 pm in the state semifinals.
