IS Closes Out Their Fall Season

IS Closes Out Their Fall Season

IS Cross Country: After beginning with a group of individuals most of whom had little to no experience with running or racing cross country, over the course of the season, we grew into a team of runners. While exploring our campus whether it was running on the trails up to Lee Field, or doing a relay on Gum Tree hill, the runners grew stronger and more confident each week and showed tremendous improvement in their times while also growing to really enjoy cross country. We ended the season with several of our athletes finishing in the top 10 at our league championships and earning medals and ribbons at large meets competing well against runners from dozens of other schools.

IS Field Hockey: The IS Field Hockey team completed a strong fall season. The Panthers had a small team but played very well against the strong competition of the ISL. Amazing goalie play and defensive back play kept our games very close. The team competed with good sportsmanship and teamwork and consistently played with heart and spirit. Looking forward to seeing our eighth graders play in the Upper School next year and seeing our current seventh graders back on the turf.

IS Football: The IS Football program completed another very successful season. There was standout fellowship and camaraderie amongst the players and coaches. That, combined with a solid work ethic and a serious approach to practice, led to much success on the field. For the season, heavyweight had strong showings in all three jamboree scrimmages, and went 3-0 in games with solid wins over Landon (23-22), Flint Hill (8-0), and St. Alban's (22-2). Lightweight also played very well in all three jamboree scrimmages, and went 2-1 in games with a tough one-score loss at Mater Dei (14-6), but two solid wins over Flint Hill (20-0) and St. Alban's (34-0).  The coaches are very proud of both teams!

IS Boys Soccer: The IS boys soccer teams worked hard this season, and as a result of their efforts, they improved tremendously. Games early in the season included some lopsided losses. These contests did not dampen the boys' spirits and instead inspired them to use practices to improve their skills. Although losses, the last several games were close contests. Congratulations to the boys for displaying Potomac's Core Value of perseverance each and every day.

IS Girls A Soccer: The IS girls A soccer team started the season with many talented individuals who had incredible skill, but most had not played soccer together before. With each passing game, we watched the girls transform from talented individual players to become a cohesive team. They began to talk to each other on the field and improved communication led to better passing, and ultimately scoring. These last few weeks, they operated like a well-oiled machine, dominating over other strong teams. The season culminated with a winning record, with only one loss in our first game. We are proud of their growth as players and people. We will miss our talented eighth graders, but we look forward to welcoming back our dynamic seventh graders next year.

IS Girls B Soccer: A successful season for the girls B soccer team was defined by looking at each player and how they fit as a member of the team and how they grew throughout the season.  The team was hugely successful this year. Most of our games were highly competitive, which made the season great fun. Thanks to all the players, refs, and athletic admin folks who contributed to our successful season.

IS Girls A Tennis: How do you weigh the success of a season? Of course the "Ws" matter.  We LIVE for the "W!"  But there are intangibles that emerge like they did for the The Potomac IS girls A tennis team witnessed many intangible benefits this season.  For example, shedding the fear of defeat, coalescing as a team in an individual sport, and simultaneously building character while helping teammates build theirs. The Panthers had a winning season (4-3) improving with every match. The real victories came with establishing a culture of hard work, perseverance, and laughter.

IS Girls B Tennis: The IS girls B tennis team had a surprisingly successful fall season finishing at 4-5 in their matches, in light of the fact that several of the players were quite new to tennis and most had never played in a competitive match. They overcame these obstacles however, and improved their games as the season progressed. They were a very cohesive group and supported each other during all of our practices and matches.

IS A Volleyball: The Intermediate School volleyball teams enjoyed sensational seasons!  The A team dominated their matches with a display of consistently strong serving, passing, and hitting. A culture of teamwork, effective communication, and unwavering competitive team spirit was on display throughout the season. We offer a heartfelt goodbye to our eighth graders as they continue their volleyball journey in the Upper School. They showed great leadership on the court which contributed significantly to our success.

IS B Volleyball: The B team players showcased their progress by securing victories through solid serving and passing. They demonstrated remarkable growth and throughout the season, their team chemistry and competitive spirit were the driving forces behind their success. We look forward to next year as many of these players continue to play volleyball in our Intermediate School program.
