This week, the Upper School spent time learning about digital citizenship, the idea that how we treat each other online is equally important as how we treat each other in person. A small committee of faculty has been exploring ways to address the issue with students since the summer, and we were excited to launch our first all-school program devoted to the subject this week. At the program, senior leaders introduced students to a case study—a made-up situation based on events that could have been real—and then students had the opportunity to reflect on the case study in their advisory groups, thinking through how different characters in the story might have felt and what should happen next in order to make things right. Advisory conversations were robust and thoughtful, and we look forward to returning to this subject periodically throughout the year.
