Recruiting for a More Diverse Faculty and Staff
As part of our intentional focus on diversity, equity, and inclusion in hiring, Potomac has updated its recruiting procedures and trained administrators and other hiring managers on these strategies. The overarching goal is to hire excellent teachers who enrich our community in many ways. Retention begins with a strong first impression and an inclusive interview process.
What are the ABC’s of diversity recruiting?
- Always Be Connecting! We should talk with professionals that we meet about Potomac’s mission and the benefits of working here – even when we’re not looking to fill a specific opening.
- Look for people who are mission- and values-aligned who add to our culture.
- Collect applications for general consideration all year so that individuals interested in working at Potomac can apply at any time, regardless of current openings.
- Source candidates broadly; for example, consider such groups as career changers, public school educators, and recent education program graduates.
- Ensure that candidates know that interviewing is a two-way street and their voice matters from the beginning.
- Ask candidates who they would like to meet that may not already be on their interview schedule.
Remember: Anyone, including parents and alumni, can help Potomac recruit by connecting us with great candidates. Encourage people to apply through our careers page!
