Diversity Hiring Fair
In collaboration with the Association of Independent Schools of Greater Washington (AISGW) and East Ed, Potomac hosts a Diversity Hiring Fair each February, typically on our campus. This year’s event, which was virtual due to COVID concerns, drew 34 independent schools and more than 100 job candidates. It was a great opportunity for candidates with diverse backgrounds and identities to learn about the culture and educational philosophy of independent schools and explore opportunities for employment at these institutions.
On February 5, the fair began with a panel discussion moderated by Randolph Carter from East Ed and featuring representatives from AISGW and Potomac. The candidates then moved into the hiring fair portion of the program, where they were able to meet with school representatives to learn about their institutions and opportunities for employment. The day ended with time for schools to interview candidates of interest.
In addition to raising The Potomac School’s visibility among prospective faculty and staff members, the fair attracts diverse candidates to the independent school sector at large, helping to create a pipeline of talent for current and future job openings. In the decade since the event’s inception, Potomac has connected with more than eight job candidates who joined our community.
