Inclement Weather Protocols
In the event of inclement weather, Potomac will make an announcement only if school is closed, delayed, or an early dismissal is required. You will be notified in the following ways:
- A popup message will be placed on our website as soon as the decision is made, generally before 5:45 am in the case of a closure or delayed start.
- An email will be sent to all parents and to students in grades 7-12.

A voice and text message will be sent to all parents. (In the case of a closure or delayed start, this notification will occur before 6:30 am.)
If school is closed due to inclement weather, all after-school activities will be canceled.
If there is a delayed opening, school will start two hours late, at 10:15 am. All bus schedules will run two hours later than normal, and buses will run their regular routes unless we announce that the weather requires the use of our Storm Stop Schedule.
In cases where weather conditions affect afternoon operations, the school will communicate when an early dismissal is required, after-school activities are impacted, and/or Storm Stops will be in use.
Please make sure your child knows which Storm Stop you will use when applicable.
