Dear Sixth Grade Parents,
As you know, our sixth graders will receive their first "official" letter grades on their progress reports this June. Parents often find it helpful to have information about students’ letter grades before they are included in the June report, allowing time for course correction if necessary. To that end, we produce a brief interim report for sixth grade students.
This Friday, April 14, your child’s current letter grades in language arts, math, social studies, science, and Spanish will be available on the “Reports” tab of the Parent Portal section of CampusNET. Only the grade will be posted, except in those cases where the cumulative semester grade is C+ or lower, some significant downward shift from the first semester has occurred, or a teacher simply feels that more elaboration is necessary. In these instances, bullet-point comments will be included to address the reasons for the grade (or change in performance) and offer some suggestions for improvement.
We urge you to view the grades provided at this interim point as an opportunity for discussion with your child, particularly in areas where comments are provided. You are, of course welcome to reach out to the teachers to gain further clarity as needed; however, in the spirit of our February student-led conferences, we ask that you connect with your child first to explore their ideas about the grades and areas for improvement.
Please let me know if you have any questions about the interim reports after having a conversation with your child and, if necessary, your child’s teacher.
Best regards,
John Mathews
