Dear Grade 4 Parents,
Fourth grade science is coming to an exciting end! On Monday, June 5, the fourth grade will take a field trip to Breezy Point Beach in Calvert County, Maryland. We will depart the school between 8:20 and 8:30 am and return by 2:45 pm. Students will be expected to take their normal afternoon mode of transportation.
The area of Calvert County, along the Chesapeake Bay, has cliffs that dominate the shoreline. These cliffs were formed over 15 million years ago when a shallow sea covered the area. The former sea floor at Breezy Point, a low-lying beach, is an ideal place to look for fossils. Sharks’ teeth are the most abundant fossils found. Since we have studied the skeletal system and begun to investigate animal diversity and taxonomy, it is also an educational way to celebrate the end of their first year in Middle School.
What to Bring/Wear? - Sunscreen (come to school wearing it and take extra to apply at the beach)
-
Shorts to get wet or swimsuit bottoms (wear to school or under other shorts)
- Closed-toed shoes such as old sneakers, crocs, or water shoes to get wet
- Towel
-
Lunch -- Students on the lunch plan will be provided with a bagged lunch.
- A full water bottle
- Hat
- Sunglasses
- Fleece or windbreaker
- Change of clothing, including dry shoes and a bag for wet clothes
Please put your child’s name on all items and have them carry a backpack or bag that is also well-marked with their name. We will be wading in the water and getting wet. Please also be sure to leave the electronics at home. We are looking forward to these last few outdoor adventures together! Feel free to email your classroom teacher if you have any questions.
Sincerely, The Grade 4 Team and Steve Wolfe |
